Why Windows Streak

Streaks come from two sources: cleaning solution residue left on the glass, and dirty water being dragged across a partially clean surface. The solution is a proper squeegee technique and clean water at every pass.

The Right Cleaning Solution

Avoid shop-bought window cleaners with synthetic fragrances — they leave residue. A few drops of washing-up liquid in a bucket of warm water works perfectly. For exterior windows, add a splash of white vinegar to cut through grime.

Squeegee Technique

Start at the top corner, pull the squeegee in an S-pattern down the glass, wiping the blade after each pass. Finish by running the squeegee vertically down each edge to pick up the water trail. This leaves zero streaks when done correctly.

The Finishing Touch

Use a dry microfibre cloth to polish the edges and corners the squeegee couldn’t reach. For mirrors, skip the squeegee entirely — a microfibre cloth with a spritz of diluted vinegar and a circular polish motion gives a flawless, streak-free finish.
