5 Cleaning Mistakes That Are Making Your Home Dirtier

Mistake 1: Using the Same Cloth Everywhere
Cross-contamination is one of the most common cleaning errors. Using the same microfibre cloth to wipe the toilet, then the countertop, spreads bacteria around your home. Use colour-coded cloths for different zones.
Mistake 2: Spraying Directly onto Surfaces
Spraying cleaner directly onto wood, screens, or electronics can seep into gaps and cause lasting damage. Always spray onto your cloth first, then wipe the surface.
Mistake 3: Cleaning Windows in Direct Sunlight
Heat causes cleaning solution to evaporate before you can wipe it off, leaving behind more streaks than you started with. Clean windows on overcast days or in the shade.
Mistake 4: Overusing Bleach
Bleach is powerful but corrosive. Overuse breaks down grout, damages stainless steel, and irritates airways. Many surfaces are better served by a pH-neutral cleaner used consistently.
Mistake 5: Skipping the Dusting Before Vacuuming
Dusting after vacuuming means particles you’ve disturbed settle back onto the floor. Always dust from high to low, then vacuum last.
