The Coffee Maker
Mineral deposits from hard water build up inside your coffee maker over time, affecting both flavour and heating efficiency. Run a cycle with equal parts white vinegar and water monthly, followed by two plain water cycles to rinse.
The Microwave
Microwave splatter hardens with each use. Place a bowl of water with half a lemon inside and run on high for 3 minutes. The steam loosens residue and the lemon neutralises odours. Wipe down while still warm.
The Refrigerator
Remove all contents and shelves quarterly. Wash shelves in warm soapy water. Wipe interior walls with a solution of one tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda per litre of water — this cleans without leaving chemical residue near food.
The Dishwasher
Despite cleaning dishes daily, dishwashers need cleaning themselves. Remove and rinse the filter weekly. Monthly, run an empty hot cycle with a cup of white vinegar in the bottom rack to descale and deodorise.
