Post-Party Cleaning: Getting Your Home Back in Order Fast
Cleaning Tips
Hosting a great party shouldn't mean a morning-after disaster. A smart post-party cleaning strategy gets your home back in shape in under two hours.

Start While Guests Are Still There
The single biggest post-party hack is getting a head start while the evening is winding down. Collect glasses, stack plates by the kitchen, and put out bins. Guests often help when it looks casual rather than like a clean-up operation.
Treat Spills Before They Set
The morning after is too late for many spills. Any carpet or upholstery spills need blotting immediately. Red wine, cola, and sauces all become much harder to remove once dried. Keep a spray bottle of soda water nearby during parties.
The Morning-After Sequence
Work room by room: collect all glasses and dishes first. Then bin rubbish. Then wipe surfaces. Then floors. Doing it in this order means you’re not cleaning the same surface twice.
Odours: The Hidden Aftermath
Stale food and drink smells linger in soft furnishings and carpets. Open windows immediately in the morning. Spray fabric surfaces lightly with a diluted fabric refresher. An unscented candle or a bowl of bicarbonate of soda absorbs overnight odour.
